About us

Located in New Bern North Carolina, The Pvt Charles Frederick Camp 706 was originally chartered on October 29, 1912 as the John C Coart Camp. The first Camp Commander was H. B. Whitehurst and W. B. Guion was the Camp's first Adjutant. It is unknown when the John C Coart Camp became inactive and dormant.

Camp 706 was reactivated on June 22, 2017 and was renamed the Pvt Charles Frederick Harget Camp. Pvt Harget served with honor in CO K 2nd North Carolina Troops. Pvt Harget was wounded at the Battle of Malvern Hill in Virginia when bullets struck him in the neck, arm, leg and side. Pvt Harget was paroled in April of 1865 at Farmville, Virginia. Pvt Harget, who was born in New Bern in 1841, died at the age of 87 in 1928 and is buried in New Bern's Historic Cedar Grove Cemetery.
